Pinocchio Robot Shows These LEGOs Were Made for Walking

Bad Nancy Sinatra song puns aside, a couple of students from Friedrich Schiller University, located in Jena, Germany, have created a robot using LEGOs that mimics bipedal movement in humans. This stepping robot, named “Pinocchio” by his inventors, was created by Marc Heydenreich and Eric Jacob using parts from a LEGO Mindstorms set and does an excellent job in simulating walking.

Assembled for a student project to study the human gait cycle, Pinocchio was created to see if a robot could be built that could copy human walking motion. Now granted, we know there are more sophisticated robots out there already that simulate walking, but this robot is certainly the first I have heard of using inexpensive parts from a LEGO Mindstorms NXT Kit. So this means anyone with a few hundred dollars could duplicate this walking robot for themselves which makes this project and LEGO Mindstorms an excellent educational tool in anyone wanting to get into robotics.

Lego Toruk Film Avatar For Fans

A lot of detail is included in the creation where you can even see the teeth and legs pushed back. It is the lego building of a different kind and when it is put together you will get the giant bird in flight. It is complete with the eyes and the antennas. It is made from bright red and black legos along with a few blue ones and it is not at all hard to guess what it is.

Legos have always been loved by those who love to build things and be creative. If you have watched Avatar, you will definitely have loved Toruk. The Toruk has been built using lego blocks by Ed Diment. Under the Taruk, you will see vein like blocks which hold it together without taking away any bird like features. If you are an Avatar fan, you will wonder why you didn’t think of this.

The modle is battery operated. There are two fans on either side of the chopper, that start rotating once the modle is switched on. There’s a red lever provided on top of the helicopter which can be used for tilting or changing the face of one or both the fans. As the pictures suggest, the avatar LEGO is indeed an interesting tech toy. However, it would have been fantastic if this chopper could actually take-off!!

These pictures of Avatar Lego Helicopter look awesome. They provide a view of this modle from every angle. Don’t be surprised if the modle becomes as big a hit as the Avatar movie. Made in white and black it has the look of an Wacky electronic gadget. The video gives an operational demo which shows that both the door for the cockpit can be opened by pulling small red levers provided just above the doors. The door for the passenger seats can be opened by pressing a button below the door.
